A personal farewell note from Laurie

December 29, 2017

Dear Food Allergy Community,

Laurie Hara

As 2017 draws to a close, along with my tenure at Food Allergy Canada, I wanted to personally thank you for your commitment and support over the years.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with many dedicated individuals over the years, and the privilege of learning from each and every one of them. From the team at Food Allergy Canada (staff, board, consultants, and volunteers), and our medical advisors (allergists), to you, members of this community who have come together with us to make transformative change happen.

One of these transformative changes was Sabrina’s Law. My fondest memory goes back to 2005, sitting in the Gallery at the Ontario legislature, watching MPs from all of the political parties put their differences aside to vote “YEA” in favour of the Law. I was also so pleased to see families and others across the country, encourage policy change within their local education sector.

It’s because of our work together that Canadians with food allergies have a better quality of life today. I am humbled and in awe of this dynamic and passionate community.

Finally, I want to thank many of you who took the time to reach out to me after the announcement of my departure last month. I am deeply touched by your kind words and well wishes. Thank you.

I encourage you all to stay connected with Food Allergy Canada – there are many exciting projects underway which Jennifer Gerdts, our incoming Executive Director, will tell you about in the new year.

I wish you and your loved ones best wishes for the holidays and 2018!

Warmly,
Laurie Harada
